audition instructions

Thank you for considering Bellingham Repertory Dance. We are excited to meet you! Whether you have auditioned for BRD in the past or you are auditioning for the first time, please read all of the included information.

By clicking on the link above, you will find information about our collective, what it is to be a member of BRD, tentative season dates, and realities of commitment to BRD. Please take a moment to read that page through and if you have any questions at all, feel free to email us at bhamrep@gmail.com.

Because we are a collective-run organization, we are looking for more than a technically gifted dancer. We are looking for a versatile person to add to our community, to work shoulder-to-shoulder with, to create, shift, and move the collective into its next stage. Those qualities can be difficult to assess with a traditional dance audition. We want to give you the opportunity to fully introduce yourself before the in-person audition. Please take your time with the following registration form and know that we just want to get to know you through this process.

an audition in two steps

STEP 1: Registration Form

The online registration form can be completed in advance or in person at the audition. There will be a $15-25 sliding scale audition class fee collected in person on audition day. Please contact us if this cost is prohibitive.

Step 2: In-Person Audition (May 31 at the Firehouse Arts and Events Center)

We are SO looking forward to this! Current members of BRD will be present at the audition and will be switching in and out between dancing with you, teaching, and observing. The audition class will include a warm-up, improvisational prompts, and choreography from BRD’s repertory.

Things to remember:

  • Please enter the audition space through the beer garden and back door entrance to the Firehouse.

  • Please arrive by 11:00 AM. The audition will run until 1:45 PM.

  • There will be NO cuts made during the audition. You will all get your full class time, and we are excited to move with you.

  • Attire: Wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable. There will be floorwork components to the class, so we recommend full arm and leg coverage if that suits you. The audition space has a marley floor, and ideal footwear is either socks or bare feet.
